2011 Master Plan Update

Background

We live in a large and highly connected region.  As we go about our day to day activities - going to work, shopping, enjoying the arts and entertainment our community has to offer - we regularly cross city and county boundaries without a second thought.  We expect these transitions to be seamless and convenient, and they should be.  As we continue to grow, this seamless connectivity will become increasingly important, especially when it comes to transit.

The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA) was formed in 2007 to coordinate transportation planning efforts between the communities of Tampa Bay.  They were charged with creating a regional transportation plan for the seven counties of Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota (unlike the Tampa Bay Partnership, TBARTA does not include Polk County at this time).  After an extensive public outreach program, the Regional Transportation Master Plan was adopted in May 2009.

2011 Master Plan Update

The Master Plan must be updated every two years to reflect changes in community needs and opportunities.  In June 2011, TBARTA approved the Master Plan update, which included expanding the Master Plan to include all forms of transportation including highways, freight, airports, and seaports. The maps below show TBARTA's mid-term (2035, left) and long-term (2050, right) plans.  Click here for information or on each map below.

Current Projects

Following the adoption of the initial Master Plan, TBARTA moved into a new phase and began taking steps to implement the plan by identifying key projects throughout the region.  Below is a map of the key projects identified and initiated to date.  Click on the map to be taken to an interactive version on TBARTA's website.
