The Bradenton Herald: Tara bridge gets new life after regional panel adds project

A brief history of the Tara Bridge: It was conceived in 1989, died in December 2010, was exhumed in January and revived Monday.
The Metropolitan Planning Organization, a regional transportation planning group, voted 12-3 to add the project back to its list of long-term projects.
The vote came after yet another protest by residents of the neighborhoods near the road, and after another debate between three Manatee County commissioners who also serve on the transportation board.
Tara Boulevard winds south between developments from State Road 70 to a dead-end about a quarter-mile short of the Braden River. The project would extend the road via bridge to Honore Avenue, completing a north-south connector road.
The transportation group took the plan off the list last year, but was re-considering the decision after the Manatee County Commission asked that it be restored.
