Tampa Tribune: HART carried record number of passengers

HART ridership rose 6.6 percent in September compared with a year ago, continuing a trend that saw the agency carry a record number of passengers in the last year.

The bus service recorded 1.2 million trips last month, capping a record fiscal year in which ridership grew 11.7 percent to 13.7 million trips.

The 1.4 million additional trips during the recent 12-month period resulted from continued marketing efforts by the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority, consumers seeking to limit driving when fuel prices rose, and despite some bus service losses forced by budget cuts.
