Around Hillsborough County, ridership on Hillsborough Area Regional Transit express routes has seen a record boost, especially in FishHawk Ranch.
FishHawk Ranch, home to a number of people who work at MacDill Air Force Base, is served by the 24X and 27X Park and Ride bus lines that make the daily 70-mile round-trip to the South Tampa base. And according to information from a 2010 Claritas Research poll, about 680 military personnel call FishHawk Ranch and surrounding communities home — many of whom ride the bus to work or duty at MacDill.
In fiscal 2011, which ended Sept. 30, HART reported an overall bus ridership increase of 12 percent from 2010 to 13.7 million trips, the most in HART history, said public information officer Marcia Mejia. Express route ridership grew by 10 percent.
From FishHawk Ranch, with a bus stop at the FishHawk Ranch Sports Complex, 24X ridership grew by 19 percent with 57,701 trips in 2011; 27X increased 19 percent to 29,048 trips. The ridership growth was the biggest gain among express routes countywide for 2011.
