Tampa Tribune: Bicycle Bash at Flatwoods park to draw thousands

You can expect thousands of bicyclists to become one with nature at Flatwoods Wilderness Park on Sunday.

The nature park nestled between Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Morris Bridge Road is the site of the sixth annual Bicycle Bash, a one-day festival geared to energizing Tampa Bay area bicycle riders.

"We have unprecedented interest in bike riding in the Tampa Bay area," bash coordinator Alan Snel said. "We have bicyclists of all backgrounds and interest coming together for this one event."

The fest has become an annual celebration to salute cycling and to recognize locals who promote bicycles as a practical and environmentally conscious mode of transportation.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hillsborough County-owned preserve at 14302 Morris Bridge Road in Thonotosassa. It is expected to draw a bevy of dignitaries, including Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, a bicycle enthusiast who is scheduled to lead a ride through the park at 11:15 a.m.
