CSX has expedited its timeline for a rezoning application to the city of Winter Haven for the 932 acres to be developed around the new Winter Haven rail terminal, according to a development team agreement approved by city commissioners.
CSX officials intend to submit their application to the city well before the Jan. 4 deadline set forth in the contract between the city and CSX.
If that happens, a final vote on the rezoning could be taken at the Jan. 23 commission meeting.
Since 2005, CSX has had a tentative deal with Winter Haven to buy the 932 acres of city property. The land will contain businesses that will be built near the rail terminal.
The deal was most recently on hold while the SunRail project was delayed.
CSX has already closed on the deal for the 318 acres the rail terminal will be built on. It closed on Sept. 28, 2007, for about $7 million.
Evansville Western Railway, the CSX subsidiary that actually will build the rail terminal, expects to create 800 construction-related jobs during the initial construction and plans to work with Polk Works to hire additional help.
