Fox 13: Pinellas considers transit tax changes

The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority [PSTA] has decided to pursue a possible public referendum on a "tax swap".

The public transit property tax would be eliminated and replaced with up to a one cent sales tax.

The PSTA board decided Wednesday to pursue that option.

"We'll go out now and talk to the community to see if it's something that they want," said newly-appointed chairman Jeff Danner. "Do you want a better transportation network, do you want a better public transit system and are you willing to have this swap to pay for it?"
