The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced that construction is scheduled to begin on October 15 on the $9.5 million State Road 60/US 98 intersection improvement project in Bartow, Florida.

As part of the project, the SR 60/US 98 intersection will be completely reconstructed, with the existing asphalt pavement replaced with concrete in an area along SR 60 (Van Fleet Drive) from west of US 98/Broadway Avenue to east of Wilson Avenue and along US 98 to a point just north of SR 60.

Other improvements include new thru lanes on SR 60 eastbound; new turn lanes on SR 60 eastbound, SR 60 westbound, US 98 southbound and Broadway Avenue; new sidewalks on both sides of SR 60 from west of US 98/Broadway Avenue to east of the Wal-Mart driveway and on the east side of US 98 from SR 60 to south of Manor Drive; dedicated bicycle lanes along SR 60 and US 98; and upgrades to signalization, drainage, lighting, landscaping and signage throughout the project limits.

The project, which will involve day, night and weekend work, is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2013.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and obey the posted speed limit while driving through the construction zone. Information is also available on the Web at http://idriveus98.com.
