HART tentatively approves new millage rate

On Monday, August 1, the HART board tentatively approved a new millage rate in Hillsborough County to provide $1.8 million in funding for transit services. The funding is necessary to maintain transit service in 2012.

The Tampa Tribune reported that the increase in the millage would amount to 41 cents added to the average property tax for the support of transit service. By increasing the millage from .4682 to .50 mills per $1,000 of assessed property value, HART would avoid a $1.8 million decline in revenues from property taxes.

Final approval of the millage rate would be on September 26, following two additional public hearings on the rate.
