Fifth Annual SWFBUD Bicycle Bash Festival, Presented by Cure on Wheels

SWFBUD (South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers) is proud to announce that the 2011 Bicycle Bash Festival, presented by Cure on Wheels is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at beautiful Flatwoods Park off Morris Bridge Road, just north of Tampa.

SWFBUD holds the Bicycle Bash Festival to celebrate bicycling in the Tampa Bay area and works to advance bicycling as a healthy activity, effective transportation mode and community asset. This past year, SWFBUD prompted Hillsborough County to initiate a bicycle safety action plan, partnered with local law enforcement agencies to increase bicycle awareness and launched a campaign to build a unified regional paved trail network called the BAM (Bicycle Area Mobility Network).

SWFBUD is proud to say that the Cure on Wheels bike ride, a fundraiser ride that raises money for local cancer causes, is the presenting sponsor of the Bicycle Bash and Hillsborough County is a co-sponsor. The Cure on Wheels ride will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, also at Flatwoods Park, just one day before the Bicycle Bash.

The Bicycle Bash attracts bicyclists of all backgrounds -- casual neighborhood bicyclists, roadies and mountain bikers to urban cyclists, BMX enthusiasts and bike commuters. The Bicycle Bash is a fun day to celebrate bicycling, enjoy music and eat food at beautiful Flatwoods Park, where both road bicyclists and mountain bikers enjoy riding.

Bicycle Bash guests include Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn; State Rep. Janet Cruz; Tampa City Councilwoman Yolie Capin; St. Petersburg Councilwoman Leslie Curran; Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe; Bikes Belong advocacy group; announcers Skip Mahaffey and Brendan McLaughlin of ABC Action News; the famed Taco Bus food truck; face painters and a bouncy house for the kids and music.

SWFBUD will also give its annual SWFBUDDY Awards at the Bicycle Bash to local residents who have helped the cause of bicycling in the Tampa Bay area this past year. A swap meet, activities for kids and fun bike activities will be going on throughout the Bicycle Bash. Mayor Buckhorn will also lead the "Buckhorn Bash Ride" around the 7-Mile Loop at 11:15 a.m.
